Depth from one photo
Monocular depth estimation predicts how near or far every pixel is from a single ordinary photo. This tool uses Depth Anything V2 to produce a grayscale depth map: bright areas are near, dark areas far.
Use cases
- 3D photos and parallax animations
- Displacement maps in Blender, After Effects and game engines
- Refocus and bokeh effects after the fact
- Artistic fog and atmosphere effects
- Computer vision projects and teaching
Technical details
The model is about 18–26 MB depending on your device and is downloaded once and cached. Browsers with WebGPU use your graphics card. Your photo is never uploaded.
How to use AI Depth Map Generator
- Upload the photo to analyse.
- The model analyses it (downloaded on first use).
- Review the depth map.
- Download the depth map as PNG.
Why use this tool?
Get usable depth data from any photo without depth sensors or 3D software.
FAQ
Are depth values in metres?
No. The model estimates relative depth: which areas are nearer or farther, not real distances.
Which photos give the best results?
Landscapes, interiors and portraits with a clear foreground and background.
What resolution is the depth map?
It's scaled to your original photo's size when exported.
