ASCII table

What is ASCII?

ASCII is the first widespread character encoding computers used to store text. Each number from 0 to 127 represents a letter, digit, punctuation mark or control character; 'A' is 65, 'a' is 97 and a space is 32.

Conversion options

Encode text like 'Hello' as 72 101 108 108 111 in decimal, hexadecimal, binary or octal, or decode a list of codes back into text.

Searchable ASCII table

The full 0–127 table lists each character's value in every base, along with control character names such as LF (line feed), CR, TAB and ESC. A ready reference for programming students, network protocol work and coursework.

FAQ

What about characters like é or €?

These aren't ASCII (0–127). The converter uses their Unicode code points instead; for example é = 233.

How do ASCII and UTF-8 relate?

UTF-8 is identical to ASCII for the first 128 characters, so ASCII text is also valid UTF-8.

What are LF and CR?

LF (10) is line feed and CR (13) carriage return. Windows uses CR+LF for line endings; Linux and macOS use only LF.
