What language is this code?

Knowing the language of a snippet copied from a forum, an old project or documentation is needed for syntax highlighting, code review and picking the right tools. The Code Language Detector predicts the language of the code you paste.

How it works

A small byte-level neural network (about 9 MB) reads the first kilobyte of code and scores 107 programming languages. The most likely language is shown with a confidence score and alternatives.

Some supported languages

C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, Go, Rust, PHP, Ruby, Kotlin, Swift, Dart, C, C++, SQL, Shell, HTML, CSS and more. The model has no separate TypeScript label, but when TypeScript syntax is obvious the tool points it out.

Your code is analysed on your device and never sent anywhere.

How to use AI Programming Language Detector

  1. Paste the code snippet.
  2. The model analyses the language.
  3. Review the most likely language and confidence.
  4. Check the alternatives if needed.

Why use this tool?

Identify unknown snippets quickly while your source code stays private.

FAQ

Why is a short snippet misclassified?

Very short snippets look alike across many languages. Add a few more lines, including imports or function definitions, for a reliable result.

Does it recognise TypeScript?

The model has no separate TypeScript label; when obvious TypeScript syntax such as type annotations is present, the tool shows it separately.

Does it format the code?

No, it only detects the language. Use our formatters for languages like SQL and JSON.
