Turn text in images into copyable text

A photo of a book page, an error message in a screenshot, a scanned document or a sign: OCR (optical character recognition) turns printed text in an image into editable, copyable text.

    How it works

The tool runs Tesseract's LSTM recognition engine directly in your browser. Before recognition the image can be enhanced: converted to grayscale, contrast increased and small images enlarged. Every word gets a confidence score and low-confidence words are highlighted on the image, so you immediately see what to double-check.

    Light and private

The engine is about 3 MB and language data is downloaded once and cached. Your image is never uploaded, so you can safely use it for IDs, invoices or contracts.

For images with several languages or scripts, use Multilingual OCR.

How to use Image to Text (OCR)

    1. Upload an image containing text.
    2. Choose the language and turn on enhancement if you like.
    3. Review the recognised text and low-confidence words.
    4. Copy the text or download it as TXT.

    Why use this tool?

Saves retyping text by hand, and your documents never leave your device.
