What is Base64?

Base64 represents text or binary data using 64 safe characters (A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /). It's used in email attachments, HTTP Basic Authentication headers, binary data inside JSON and data URLs.

Unicode support

Many simple Base64 tools break accented characters and emoji. This tool converts text to UTF-8 bytes first, so text with characters like 'ğüé' or emoji survives the round trip exactly.

URL-safe Base64

Get output in the URL-safe variant that uses - and _ instead of + and /. Decoding accepts both alphabets. Base64 isn't encryption and doesn't protect sensitive information.

How to use Base64 Encoder / Decoder

  1. Paste text or a Base64 string.
  2. Choose encode or decode.
  3. Tick URL-safe output if needed.
  4. Copy the result.

Why use this tool?

Handles a conversion you need constantly when developing and debugging, without character problems.
