    Balancing quality and size

    GIF can use at most 256 colours, so a palette optimised for each clip is generated during conversion to reduce colour banding. Control the file size with the start and end second, the width and the 'small file', 'balanced' or 'best quality' presets.

    Tips

    • Short clips (2–6 seconds) work best
    • 480 pixels wide with 'balanced' quality is usually enough for chats
    • For websites, MP4 instead of GIF gives a much smaller file
