ROT13 Encoder / Decoder
Apply ROT13, ROT47 or ROT13 with digit rotation; applying it twice restores the original.
Only the Latin letters A–Z are shifted; other characters stay unchanged. This is a classic puzzle cipher, not encryption.
What is ROT13?
ROT13 rotates every letter 13 places through the alphabet. Because the English alphabet has 26 letters, applying ROT13 twice returns the original text, so encoding and decoding are the same operation. For example 'hello' → 'uryyb'.
Where it's used
On forums ROT13 hides film and TV spoilers, puzzle answers and punchlines so readers don't see them by accident. It isn't meant for security.
Variants
- ROT13: rotates letters only
- ROT13 + digits (ROT5): also rotates digits by 5
- ROT47: rotates every visible ASCII character, including digits and punctuation
All transformations happen instantly in your browser.

- Type or paste your text.
- Choose ROT13, ROT13 + digits or ROT47.
- The result appears instantly.
- Copy it; apply the same operation again to decode.
