One small model (about 100 MB) is downloaded per language direction. Every direction goes to or from English. Translating from English into Turkish is not available yet: the browser-sized models we tested produced unusable Turkish.
Keep your translations on your device
Text you paste into online translation services is sent to those companies' servers, which is a privacy risk for contracts, internal messages or personal notes. The AI Translator downloads the translation model to your browser and translates entirely on your device.
Supported directions
Each direction uses its own compact Marian model from the OPUS-MT project. Every direction goes from or to English: for example German → English, English → French or Turkish → English. Each direction's model (about 100 MB) is downloaded once, the first time you use it.
Why no English → Turkish?
We tested English → Turkish models small enough for the browser and they produced unusable output. Rather than offer bad translations, that direction is disabled for now; Turkish → English works.
How to use AI Translator (On-Device)
- Choose the translation direction (e.g. German → English).
- Paste the text to translate.
- The model for that direction downloads on first use.
- Review and copy the translation.

FAQ
Why can't I translate from English to Turkish?
The browser-sized English→Turkish models we tested produced unusable output, so that direction is disabled for now. Turkish→English is available.
Can I translate German to French directly?
Not directly. Every direction goes through English; translate German → English, then English → French.
Is the quality as good as online services?
Compact models may be less fluent than large cloud services, but they offer privacy. Have important texts checked by a professional.
