Subtitle Word Counter
Count dialogue lines, words and characters in subtitle files, excluding timecodes.
Word counts for translation and quotes
Subtitle translators and agencies usually price work per word or character. But when you paste an SRT into a word processor, sequence numbers and timecodes get counted too. The Subtitle Word Counter counts only the spoken text.
What's calculated
- Number of cues and dialogue lines
- Words and characters (with and without spaces)
- Total duration and average words per line
Timestamps, sequence numbers, HTML tags and ASS style codes are stripped before counting. Your file is processed in the browser.
How to use Subtitle Word Counter
- Upload your SRT, VTT, ASS or SSA file.
- Timecodes and tags are stripped automatically.
- Review the word, character and line statistics.
- Use the numbers in your quote or invoice.
Why use this tool?
Price subtitle projects accurately and plan the workload in advance; your file is never sent anywhere.
